Studies have shown unprecedented amounts of children are experiencing orphanhood due to Covid-19 in India between March 2020 and October 2021. The Ministry of Women and Child Development posted on June 8, 2022, of The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) has a portal recording registered orphans and stated, "So far, 1,53,827 children have been registered on the portal including 1,42,949 children with a single parent, 492 abandoned children and 10,386 children who have lost both their parents”, according to an article published in The Hindu paper.
